ACLEDA was established in January 1993, as a national NGO for micro and small enterprises' development and credit. After several successful years in the microfinance field it sought and obtained a license as a Specialised Commercial Bank in October, 2000, to enable it to take public deposits and seek commercial funding to support expansion of it's core business. Today ACLEDA is 51% owned by Cambodian interests, including its staff, with the remaining 49% taken up in equal parts by the International Finance Corporation (a division of the World Bank), DEG (Germany), FMO (Netherlands) and Triodos Bank (Netherlands.)Since 1993 ACLEDA has extended more than 455,000 loans totaling over USD109 million.
At the end of July, 2001, the outstanding loan portfolio exceeded US$21 million with 75,000 customers (averaging approximately US$280 per loan) of which 75% are women. It currently employs more than 660 staff in 65 offices in 14 provinces. Total assets exceed USD25.5 mio. with capital funds and subordinated debt at USD16.2 mio. In addition to microfinance, ACLEDA Bank Limited offers current, savings and fixed deposit accounts (KHR as well as USD), payroll services, funds transfers and cash management services for corporate customers, at all principal branches and is also an agent for Western Union.ACLEDA's head office is located in Phnom Penh and the bank maintains a branch network covering Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Kampong Cham, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Speu, Kampong Thom, Kampot, Phnom Penh/Kandal, Prey Veng, Pursat, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, Svay Rieng and Takeo provinces - the largest network of any bank in the country.
