There
appears to be a growing number of cases of fraudulent use of
Internet accounts in Phnom Penh. Often the password has been passed
on in good faith, in other cases the password has been extracted
from the user's computer. We suggest the following simple
precautions:
- Do not tell anybody your
password.
- Change your password regularly using BigPond's online account
management page.(see useful reminders below).
Choose passwords that are difficult to guess. Include letters and numbers.
BigPond support engineers will ONLY ask you for your password
when you request us to download or to delete messages for you. We
urge you to change your password after this task has been completed.
We also suggest that customers use the WebMail facility if possible
to delete messages.
If ANYONE has had unsupervised access to your computer, we
suggest you change your password. This includes any computer
technicians.
Never use your BigPond username / password in a web cafe in
Phnom Penh.
Your BigPond password is stored on our database in a
one-way encrypted format that cannot be accessed by anyone,
including BigPond staff. If a situation arises where you have
forgotten your password, our staff will need to confirm your
identity before issuing you a new password.
