Here are some of the frequently asked questions(FAQs) regarding our services. The answer provided have been prepared to help you use our services better.

Q: What must I have to use the Internet?
A: You must have the following things to be able to use the Big Pond Cambodia service:

  • A PC running either the Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 3.1 operating system or a Macintosh running system 7.5.3 or higher.
  • A telephone line
  • A modem capable of supporting speeds of 9600 baud or higher.
  • An account with Big Pond Cambodia

The Big Pond Cambodia Start Up Disk contains instructions you need to connect to the Internet.

Q: If I am unsure about the quality of my phone line, or compatibility of my computer or modem, can I test the service before I sign up?
A: Certainly. Big Pond Cambodia offers a dial-up test facility which enables you to test your computer configuration and telephone line before you sign-up for the service. Just ask our friendly staff for assistance.

Q: What kind of modem is recommended?
A: BigPond support all standard modem of a K56 Flex or V 90 speed up to 56kbps.

Q: How long does it takes to sign up for a new account?
A: Once you have filled out your application form, presented the required identification documents, and paid the first month's subscription and recommended deposit, your account is created on the spot. The whole process only takes a matter of minutes.

Q: What identification documents do I need for signing up?
A: For individual/personal account please present valid ID and / or passport plus proof of residential address. For organisation, please bring copies of registration documents, VAT certificate and guarantee letter.

Q: Who will install the Bigpond service?
A: Once you have been registered with Telstra BigPond, there are three options:
1. You will be given the Start Up Disk and you can install it yourself, or
2. Our Technical Support officer will schedule an appointment to visit your location and make your connection (the technical fee is $15.00), or
3. You can bring your CPU and modem to BigPond office where technical staff will install e-mail and internet software on the spot (the technical fee is $5.00).

Q: How will I be invoiced?
A: We will send invoices to you every month via electronic mail. The invoice includes charges for additional hours used in the preceding month and the subscription fees for the following month.

Q: Q: When will I be invoiced?
A: Your monthly invoice date is the date of your account registration with Telstra BigPond Internet Services. Please visit our office to pay within 7 days of receiving the invoice. We accept payments either in cash or by cheque (local and payable to telstra Bigpond Cambodia).

Q: Does Big Pond Cambodia offer technical support to customers?
A: Big Pond Cambodia has a customer support help desk which is staffed from 7.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday. The support desk provides customer assistance and can be contacted either by telephone, e-mail or through our customer support news groups.

Q: What kind of computer knowledge do I need to master the Internet?
A: You don't need to be a computer expert to use the Internet. However, you will find the Internet much more enjoyable if you already have a few very simple and basic computer skills.

Q: I am currently using one of the local e-mail services in Phnom Penh. Is it going to cost me more to use the Internet for my e-mail?
A: If you only want to use Big Pond Cambodia to send and receive e-mail, then you work very much as you do now; that is you prepare and read your e-mail off-line (not connected to the Internet). You only need to connect to do the actual sending and receiving. We believe that for most people even the cheapest Big Pond plan – the Casual User plan – provides more than enough on-line time to send all of your email. You get the additional benefit of being able to access the rich content of the Internet whenever you choose.
