Japanese and Classical Music Concert

The Japanese and Classical Music Concert was held on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Embassy of Japan.

Sethisak KHUON: A graduate from Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Moscow, Sethasak won the competition "Bella Voce" in Russia in 1994 and become a music teacher at the Royal University of Fine Arts in 1996. He sang in many recitals in Europe and the States. In 2000, he performed the role of the Duke in the opera "Undine" by Hoffman with the Berkeley Opera and in 2001, the role of Edgardo in the opera "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Donizetti with the Capitol Opera of Sacramento, California.

Ayako ONO: Ayako has received her bachelor's degree in violin performance from Indiana University School of Music. She is now currently a candidate for a master's degree at Yale University as a scholarship recipient and will be graduating next summer. She has performed in the US, Austria, France as well as in Japan.

Yumiko ONO: A graduate of Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, born in Tokyo and began the piano at four years of age. Her debut with Orchestra was with the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra at 11 year's old. She has performed extensively in the US, France, Russia as well as in Japan.

Hisako IKEDA: A member of the JOCV, Hisako arrived here in July 2000 to teach vocal students at the Faculty of Music. She is a graduate from Tokyo College of Music. She has finished her mission on July 03, 2002, so this is the last concert in Cambodia for her.

Mayumi KINOMOTO: A graduate of Musashino College of Music. Mayumi arrived at Phnom Penh to take over Hisako's mission. As a member of JOCV, she teaches vocal students at the Faculty of Music. This concert is her debut in Cambodia.

We sincerely hope that this cross-cultural concert further promoted mutual understanding between Cambodia and Japan and also deepened the understanding of classical and Japanese music amongst the young Cambodian students
