Reception for successful students of Human Resource Development Scholarship program
June 7, 2002 at 6:00 p.m.-8:00pm
at the Tonle Bassac Room, Hotel Cambodiana
A Reception for the Human Resource Development Scholarship Students will be held on
Friday, June 7th, 2002 from 6:00 p.m. at the Tonle Bassac Room, Hotel Cambodiana under the
presence of Operating Committee chairman of the Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource
Development Scholarship Program ( JDS ), H.E IM Sethy, State Secretary of the Ministry of
Education, Youth and Sports and hosted by Mr. Gotaro OGAWA, Ambassador of Japan.
At the beginning of this reception, there will be speeches by Ambassador of Japan and State
Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Editors are invited to cover the
part in the reception (from 6:00 p.m. ~ 6:30 p.m.). Expected participants among approximately
60 persons, include members of the Operating Committee of this project consisted of Ministry
of Education, Youth and Sports, Council for the Development of Cambodia, Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and International Cooperation, State Secretariat of Public Function and those
Ministries and institutions to which the successful students belong.
Human Resource Development Scholarship, which was newly started in 2000 is a Japanese grant
aid and was renewed in 2001 (Exchange of Notes were signed on August 21st, 2001), with the
total amount of (¥ 311,000,000; approximately equivalent to US$ 2.5 million) in order to
support the Royal Government of Cambodia in its efforts for human resource development.
This grant aid will provide Cambodian youth (especially young government officials) the
scholarship from the Government of Japan for academic research (mainly master degree) at
Japanese universities. Among 440 candidates, 20 Cambodian youth were selected as follows
to study at Japanese universities in the target field of (1) Law, (2) Economics (finance,
public finance and trade), (3) Business Administration, (4) International Relations (including
international law), (5) Agriculture (including Regional Development and Environment Agriculture
Program), (6) Infrastructure Management (including Eco-Environmental Civil Engineering).
Presently, the 20 successful students are attending the preparatory training course until
the end of June. They will depart for Japan on June 30th, 2002 and arrive on July 1st, 2002.
After the Japanese language training and orientation seminar in Tokyo, they are going to go
for study in their respective universities.
