For the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Projects
(KUSANONE)

The
Government of Japan has decided to provide, through its Japanese Grant
Assistance for Grass-roots Projects scheme called "KUSANONE" (which
means Grass-roots in Japanese) a total amount of US$ 306,892 to the following
4 projects. The Grant Contract will be signed between Mr. Katsuhiro SHINOHARA,
Charge d' Affairs a.i. of the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia and the
Representatives of each recipient organization.
"KUSANONE" grant assistance
started in Cambodia in 1992, in order to assist Cambodia's reconstruction and
development efforts at the Grass-roots level. Up to the present time,
including these 4 projects, a total amount of US$ 14,166,414 has been
provided by the Government of Japan through the "KUSANONE" scheme
to assist 232 international and local NGOs or local authorities' projects,
especially in the education and health sectors. In the Japanese Fiscal-year 2002 (April 2002-March 2003), a total amount of US$395,002 has been granted so far under "KUSANONE" scheme for 7 projects including these 4 projects.

1. The Project to Provide Secondhand School Equipment to Primary Schools in Mean Chey District (US$80,580)
Recipient: Bureau of Education, Youth and Sports of the Mean Chey District
Outline of the Project: This Project is to Provide Bureau of Education, Youth and Sports of the Mean Chey District 2,971 desks and 2,800 chairs donated by Tomisato city, Chiba prefecture, and Sapporo city, Hokkaido, Japan. The grant also covers transportation fare for delivery of desks and chairs from the above 2 mentioned cities and printing cost of ODA logo stickers. Students in 11 primary schools in Mean Chey district will benefit from this project. 2. The Project to Provide Secondhand School Equipment to Primary Schools in Russey Keo District (US$72,560)
Recipient: Bureau of Education, Youth and Sports of the Russey Keo District
Outline of the Project:This Project is to provide Bureau of Education, Youth and Sports of the Russey Keo District 2,871 desks abd 2,700 chairs donated by Sapporo city, Hokkaido, Japan. The grant also covers transportation fare for delivery of desks and chairs from Sapporo city and printing cost of ODA logo stickers. Students in 13 primary schools in Russey Keo district will benefit.

The Project to Provide Secondhand Schol Equipment to Secondary Schools in Phnom Penh (US$ 80,670)
Recipient: Office of Education, Youth and Sports of The Municipaity of Phnom Penh
Outline of the Project: This Project is to provide Office of Education, Youth and Sports of The Municipality of Phnom Penh 3,427 desks and 3,260 chairs donated by Sapporo city, Hokkaido, Japan. The grant also covers transportation fare for delivery of desks and chairs from Sapporo city and printing cost of ODA logo stickers. Students in two lower secondary schools and six secondary schools will benefit from this project.

The Project to Support Sexual Health Education for Youth (US$73,082)
Recipient: Save the Children UK (SC UK)
Outline of the Project: This Project is to support Save the Children UK (SC UK) with material for sexual health education for youth. The sexual health education will be implemented in Takeo, Kratie, Prey Veng and Phnom Penh by Save the Children UK (SC UK) in partnership with 3 locals NGOs.
