Launching Celebration of the Establishment of Japan Alumni of Cambodia

To celebrate the official establishment of "Japan Alumni of Cambodia (JAC)", the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia and JAC will co-hold the launching ceremony of this new organization on August 31st, 2002, starting at 17:30, at JULIANA Hotel. The programme of the ceremony is attached herewith.

Approximately thirty Cambodian ex-students who studied in Japan are estimated to be the initial members of the organization. It is expected that the formation of this alumni will expand and strengthen the ties of friendship between Japan and Cambodia. Embassy of Japan wholeheartedly welcomes the establishment of JAC and intends to cooperate with this new organization to futher enhance our relationships.

As its first official activity, JAC will send a delegation of three members to the "29th Reunion of Former Students in Japan from the Southeast Asian Countries", which will be held in Tokyo from October 21st to 27th, 2002. The reunion is organized annually backed up by the Government of Japan in order to help strengthen networking and exchanges among former-students who studied in Japan from the ASEAN region, namely the Brunei Darussalam, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Republic of Indonesia, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, the Union of Myanmar, the Republic of Philippines, the Republic of Singapore, the Kingdom of Thailand and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and to activate each alumni's activities in turn.
