Grant Contract Ceremony
For the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Projects
(KUSANONE)

at the Hall of the Embassy of Japan


The government of Japan has decided to provide, through its Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Projects scheme called "KUSANONE" (which means Grass-roots in Japanese) a total amount of US$ 128,237 to the following 3 projects. The Grant Contract will be signed between Mr. GOTARO Ogawa, Ambassador of the Embassy of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Representatives of each recipient organization.

"KUSANONE" grant assistance started in Cambodia in 1992, in order to assist Cambodia's reconstruction and development efforts at the Grass-roots level. Up to the present time, including these 3 projects, a total amount of US$ 14,966,024 has been provided by the Government of Japan through the "KUSANONE" scheme to assist 238 international and local NGOs or local authorities' projects, especially in the education and health sectors. In the Japanese Fiscal-year 2002 (April 2002~March 2003), a total amount of US$ 1,194,612 has been granted so far under "KUSANONE" scheme for 13 projects including these 3 projects.

(The outline of the KUSANONE Projects)

  1. The Project to Construct Suon Koma Health Center in Pailin City (US$ 31,217)

    Recipient: Pailin City Health Department
    Outline of the Project: This Project is to construct a health center in Pailin Referral Hospital in Pailin city. The project will enable Pailin City Health Department to offer service of minimum package of activities (MPA) to people in O Tavao and Pailin districts, Pailin City. 10,379 people in the above mentioned districts will benefit from this project.

  2. The Project to Construct Anh Chan Primary/Secondary School Buildings and a Gymnasium in Battambang Province (US$ 81,102)

    Recipient: Phare Ponleu Selpak
    Outline of the Project: This Project is to support Phare Ponleu Selpak to construct a gymnasium and two school buildings, each of which consisted of 5 classrooms in Anh Chan village, Ocha commune, Battambang province. The two buildings will be used as primary school and secondary school; meanwhile, gymnasium will be used also for Phare Ponleu Selpak's circus practice. 430 children and teenagers will benefit from the project.

  3. The Project to Provide Medical Equipment for Maternal and Child Health Services in Chhlong Health Operational District, Kratie Province (US$ 15,918)

    Recipient: Partmners for Development
    Outline of the Project: This project is to support Partners for Development to supply basic medical equipment to Chhlong Referral Hospital and 10 Health Centers in Health Operational Districts, Kratie Province. This project will improve maternal and child health services. 15,000 children aged under 5 years old and 28,000 women aged between 15 to 49 years old will benefit from this project.
