Grant Contract Ceremony
For the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Projects
(KUSANONE)

The government of Japan has decided to provide, through its Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Projects scheme called "KUSANONE" (which means Grass-roots in Japanese) a total amount of US$ 157,021 to the following 4 projects. The Grant Contract will be signed between Mr. Gotaro OGAWA, Ambassador of the Embassy of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Representatives of each recipient organization.
"KUSANONE" grant assistance started in Cambodia in 1992, in order to assist Cambodia's reconstruction and development efforts at the Grass-roots level. Up to the present time, including these 4 projects, a total amount of US$ 15,123,045 has been provided by the Government of Japan through the "KUSANONE" scheme to assist 242 international and local NGOs or local authorities' projects, especially in the education and health sectors. In the Japanese Fiscal-year 2002 (April 2002~March 2003), a total amount of US$ 1,351,633 has been granted so far under "KUSANONE" scheme for 17 projects including these 4 projects.

The Project to Support Parasite Extermination for Primary School Children in Cambodia (US$ 69,168)
Recipient: National Center for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control
Outline of the Project: This Project is to support National Center for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control to produce health educational material of intestinal-worm-related diseases for primary school children in 12 provinces. The parasite extermination project is co-funded by UNICEF, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports. Through this Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material, awareness of parasite caused diseases and precautionary method will be expanded. Approximately 1,500,000 children will benefit from this project.

The Project to Support Furniture for Day Care Center in Phnom Penh (US$ 7,096)
Recipient: Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco
Outline of the Project: This Project is to support Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco to equip furniture in its Day Care Center, which will offer pre-schooling to children aged 4-6 years old in Teuk Thla village, Teuk Thla commune, Russey Keo district, Phnom Penh. 160 children will benefit from this project every year.

The Project to Construct Resource Centres and a Training Centre in Kompong Speu and Kandal Provinces (US$ 10,749)
Recipient: SCALE
Outline of the Project: This project is to support SCALE to construct 20 resource centres in Kompong Speu and Kandal provinces, and a training centre at SCALE's headquarter in Saang district, Kandal province. The resource centres will be used as documentation center to offer helpful agricultural information to farmers in villages, and the training centre will be used to train farmers operate and make best use of resource centres in order to improve agricultural practice.

The Project to Construct TB Ward and Training Center at Srey Santhor-Kang Meas Operation District Referral Hospital in Kampong Cham Province (US$ 70,008)
Recipient: Srey Santhor-Kang Meas Operational District
Outline of the Project: This Project is to construct a TB Ward and a training center at Srey Santhor-Kang Meas Operational District Referral Hospital in Kampong Cham province. This project will enable the Hospital to expand TB treatment service for people in 135 villages of 20 communes, and the training center will be used by all concerned health workers in the districts.
