Second-Hand School Equipment
Hand-Over Ceremony
to 32 Schools in Phnom Penh City

This ceremony is to hand second-hand desks and chairs over to 32 schools
in Phnom Penh at Santhor Muk High School with the presence of H.E. Mr. CHEA
Sophara, Delegate of the Royal Government and Governor of the Municipality of
Phnom Penh, and Mr. Gotaro OGAWA, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of
Cambodia.
This is a hand-over of 9,269 desks and 8,760 chairs donatd by Tomisato
city, Chiba prefecture and Sapporo city, Hokkaido, Japan. 2,971 desks and
2,800 chairs are donated to 11 primary schools in Mean Chey district, and
2,871 desks and 2,700 chairs are donated to 13 primary schools in Russey Keo
district. Other 3,427 desks and 3,260 chairs are donated to 2 lower secondary
schools and 6 secondary schools. The Government of Japan funded transportation
cost of the equipment, and printing cost of ODA logo stickers with an amount
of US$ 233,810 through the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Projects
called "KUSANONE" based on the Grant Contract signed on July 9, 2002.
"KUSANONE" is Japan's grant aid to support small-scale, grass-roots
projects implemented by international and local NGOs as well as local
authorities. It is an important pillar of Japan's economic cooperation to
Cambodia. Since its start in 1992, the total amount of US$ 15,123,045 has been
provided to assist 242 projects to help Cambodian rehabilitation and
development efforts at grass-roots level.
