@@On 1st October 2001, more than eight thousand school chairs and seven thousand and five hundred school desks from Japan were handed over to fifteen primary and high schools in Phnom Penh. The handing-over ceremony was held at the Wat Koh High School in the auspicious of H.E. Mr. Chea Sophara, Governor of Phnom Penh Municipality, and Mr. Gotaro OGAWA, Ambassador of Japan, and on behalf of the donors of this educational equipment, Mr. Satoshi YONEMOTO, a member of TOMISATO Town Assembly.

@@Because of a recent change of educational equipment standards, Sapporo City in Hokkaido Prefecture and Tomisato Town in Chiba prefecture had to renew thousands of school desks and chairs. But those materials were still clean enough and in good condition to use, so they decided to recycle them. The project to export the equipment from Japan to Cambodia was set up and the transportation cost was funded by the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia in the cooperation of the Municipality Office of Education, Youth and Sports. At the beginning of the new school year 2001-2002, those desks and chairs were given to Cambodian pupils and got the new lives here again!
