| Signature ceremony of the grant on 12 December 2006 |
Co-funded by the European Commission and the Konrad-Adenauer
Foundation, the project consists of police training
on victim and witness protection according to international
standards, the outreach on the process of the Khmer
Rouge Tribunal and the advocacy for international
standards of the process.
Besides the police training, outreach activities will
be carried out by an extensive network of 120 citizen
advisors in 7 provinces: Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom,
Seamreap, Battambang, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng and Kratie.
The citizen advisors disseminate information about
witness protection, reparation and victims' participation.
Furthermore, the citizen advisors will give the rural
population a regular update on the Tribunal's activities
and proceedings.
The project will thus contribute to the protection
of victims' rights, to the promotion of justice and
to the well functioning of the Tribunal's witness
and victim protection program.
