In January 2001, MEDICAM gathers One-Hundred-Ten (110)
Member-organisations under its umbrella, both international and local, to which UN and
bilateral agencies join as Associate Members, and individuals as
Observers.
Our Mission
MEDICAM is a non-profit, non-partisan, and non-sectarian
umbrella organisation. Its main objectives are:
- Facilitate communication and diffusion of
health-related information between the NGOs, the Royal Cambodian Government, and
all other health actors in Cambodia (U.N., I.Os, bilateral agencies, World Bank, Asian
Development Bank, etc.). For instance, MEDICAM keeps NGOs informed of any new
health-related policies, regulations, guidelines, manuals, publications, visiting experts,
workshops, seminars, courses, etc.
- Act as an interface between the NGOs and Royal
Cambodian Government and in particular the Ministry of Health (see the diagram of
the Coordination Mechanism between NGOs and the Ministry of Health in Cambodia in English or in Khmer).
- Represent the health NGOs at official venues
(i.e. Ministry of Health Coordination Committee [CoCom] and all Sub-Committees
[Sub-CoComs]), consultative meetings or workshops of WHO, UNFPA, UNDP, World Bank, Asian
Development Bank, etc.
- Consult the NGOs on specific health issues of
importance, so that to enable them to take part in the national health policy
making thanks to the open consultation process of the Ministry of Health
- Act as an advocacy think-tank for issues
related to health in Cambodia (see Medicam as an Advocacy
organisation).
