Srey Santhor Referral Hospital
TBA (Traditional Birth Attendant) plays a very important role for the health of mothers and children. Majority of mothers in rural Cambodia still delivers at their home by TBA's assistance.
This is the first training conducted by health staff of Srey Santhor with the support of SHARE. For this three and a half day training, 19 TBAs attended. They came from 5 different communes in Srey Santhor district.
The purpose of the training is to provide the basic knowledge on safe delivery since TBAs often face some difficulties and problems in assisting delivery. The training covers anatomy, preparation for delivery, normal delivery, abnormal delivery, deal with minor problem/referral cases. Besides, improving the cooperation between commune midwives and TBAs was discussed to ensure the health of pregnant women in the area.
In total, six TBA training sessions are planned to cover all TBAs in the area. This was the first training session of the six sessions. For the remaining five sessions, 20 to 30 TBAs are planned to attend for each session to cover more than 100 TBAs. It is also aimed that facilitation and training skills of the referral hospital staff are improved through the training sessions.

At the end of the training, each TBA filled in a post-test questionnaire. Together with pre-test, this aims to measure TBAs' understanding of the training. |
